Femundløpet – Long distance dog sledding

Femundløpet, hosted every year and setting out from Røros for a haul of 600, 400 or 200 km depending on category, is a festive occasion with a lot of great nature experiences. The sleds are led by twelve dogs, and the race features a number of checkpoints for the dogs, as well as the racer, to get some compulsory rest and paw love.

Winners this year were Ralph Johannessen, Elisabeth Edland and Amund Rognes Kokkvoll in the respective categories.

Together with twenty-four lovely inhabitants of Lensvik, I was in a camp next to the 600 km route, handing out drive-by waffles and playing games throughout the late hours.
